This katana features chrysanthemum-themed fittings, a traditional Japanese motif associated with longevity and renewal. The chrysanthemum has also been closely connected with the Imperial family and appears in many Japanese family crests.
The blade is traditionally hand-forged and differentially clay-tempered to produce a Gunome-style hamon. It is then hand-polished to bring out the temper line and give the blade a clean, traditional finish.
The fittings, including the tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki, are made from cast brass and carry the chrysanthemum motif throughout the design.
The tsuka is wrapped in genuine same-gawa (rayskin) and finished with brown synthetic silk ito. Hishigami are used during the tsukamaki process to help keep the wrap tight, even, and secure.
