Kogarasu Maru Zukuri Katana
Kogarasu Maru Zukuri Katana
The Kogarasu Maru (小烏丸), or "Little Crow Circle," is a distinctive Japanese sword believed to have been crafted by the legendary smith Amakuni during the 8th century AD.
Blades with the Kissaki Moroha Zukuri (鋒両刃造) design, like the Kogarasu Maru, are often called Kogarasu Zukuri (小烏造). This blade style is renowned for its unique sugata (shape), bridging the double-edged Japanese Ken (inspired by the Chinese Jian) and the traditional tachi, which evolved into the iconic katana.
This sword is forged with a clay-tempered hamon, producing a prominent hamon line that stands out after a full hand mirror polish. The tsuka is wrapped in genuine rayskin (same), with a tsuka-maki featuring hishigami for superior grip, a tightly bound ito, and excellent geometry. The long tang is double-pegged for enhanced security and durability.
