Kogarasu Maru Zukuri Katana

The Kogarasu Maru (小烏丸), or “Little Crow Circle,” is one of the most distinctive sword forms in Japanese history. It is traditionally associated with the smith Amakuni and is known for its unusual blade shape.

This style uses a Kissaki Moroha Zukuri blade, with a double-edged point section that sets it apart from a standard katana. The design is often referred to as Kogarasu Zukuri and gives the sword a profile that sits somewhere between earlier double-edged Japanese blades and later tachi-style swords.

The blade is differentially clay-tempered to create a visible hamon and is finished with a full hand mirror polish. The tsuka is wrapped over genuine rayskin (same), with hishigami used during the tsukamaki process to help keep the wrap tight and even. The long tang is secured with two pegs.

Available in T10 steel or Tamahagane steel.
